What is a morning routine?
A morning routine is your personal combination of select habits or rituals you go through as soon as you wake up. It’s what sets you up for your day and determines your focus, productivity, and mood. It is one of the most essential elements of your routine.
It can include:
Going for a walk, making coffee, following a skincare routine, making your bed, getting fresh air, making yourself a balanced breakfast, etc.
How do I build my morning routine?
Believe it or not, your morning routine starts with your bedtime routine. You need to maintain a fixed bedtime, which will ensure a fixed wakeup time. It is essential that you determine just how much time and how much sleep you will need so that you don’t feel the need to hit snooze in the morning.
Imagine: you get out of bed at 7am, make your bed and open your blinds. You wash your face, brush your teeth and get dressed. You head outside for some fresh air and a quick walk to wake yourself up. You come back and start your work day.
It can be as simple as that.
What if I don’t have any time in the morning?
A morning routine doesn’t have to be a 2-hour process, it can be a quick 15 minutes that you set aside for yourself. Sure, you might be thinking “but I could use that extra 15 minutes to get some extra sleep”, but you’re forgetting that sleeping that extra 15 minutes can cause you to feel rushed and create a feeling of anxiety for the rest of the day.
So set some time aside for yourself and make YOU a priority.
How do I stick with my morning routine?
To stick with it – you need to shift your mindset. Instead of seeing a morning routine is something you have to force yourself to do, make it something you enjoy doing. You also need to hold yourself accountable – find a reason why you’re doing something, make this the reason that you keep doing it. Make sure to find the motivation behind your routine – it can be something as simple as it makes you feel good and sets your day up for success. Don’t stop trying – if you sleep in and forget your routine one morning, don’t use this as an excuse for every morning after that.
